Peripheral Neuropathy (PN)

Symptoms: May include numbness, tingling,  pain, inflammation, loss of balance, burning, tightness, hypersensitivity to touch and motor weakness in the feet  and/or legs.

Treatment Plan :Commence with 10 – 100 Joules per foot.  Knowing that a 15 minute treatment session provides up to 63 Joules you can assess and monitor your preferred amount within the range. If you feel good results from that, keep it at that range. If not, increase the amount of Joules by increasing your duration if well tolerated. PN is somewhat tricky to treat because some patients become more symptomatic after 25 Joules of treatment and others feel relief when they receive more than 500 Joules per foot, for a total combined amount of more than 1000 Joules. As the boot provides irradiance all the way around your feet and ankles it provides complete coverage including on top of the foot for the popliteal fossa which stimulates the popliteal artery. 

Treatment Outcomes: Most patients will feel benefits from 1-2 sessions and temporary relief could last from 1-5 days noting that it is important to maintain ongoing treatments to treat potential nerve damage that has occurred that is driving the symptoms. Some patients can expect complete remission after several months of consistent use. 

Complimentary Treatments : As you have heard before all too often and for good reason that if you can attain optimal weight and regular daily exercise, eat a balanced diet, add nutritional supplements and limit your alcohol intake, you will help reduce your symptoms. Some physicians have found that topical and oral L-Arginine can be of benefit. Nutritional support often involves a Multi-vitamin and mineral formula  with Alpha Lipoic Acid, L-carnitine, Benfotiamine, B vitamins and other nutrients but it is always best to check with your treating medical practitioner when it comes to supplementing to ensure that they are right for you in your situation.
