How Red Light Therapy Supports Equine Wellness

Red and near-infrared light are absorbed by cells and are commonly used to support circulation and general comfort in targeted areas. Many horse owners use it as part of a post-training or post-competition routine, alongside — not instead of — normal veterinary care.

Leredd's equine range uses the same 660nm red and 850nm near-infrared wavelengths as our human devices, in wraps and panels designed to sit safely against a horse's coat and tolerate stable conditions.

This is wellness support, not veterinary treatment. Always speak to your vet about injuries, lameness, or any medical concern.

HOW TO USE SAFELY

Using Red Light Therapy Safely With Horses

Every Leredd equine device is designed for safe, targeted use. Follow these steps for every session.

01

Step 01

Start Short

Begin with a 5–10 minute session to see how your horse responds before building up to longer sessions.

First session should always be brief
02

Step 02

Secure, Don't Tighten

If using a wrap, keep it snug enough to stay in place — never strap firmly against the skin.

Never strap firmly against skin
03

Step 03

Avoid the Eyes

Keep any device well clear of your horse's eyes and away from open wounds.

Position away from the face entirely
04

Step 04

Watch Your Horse

Stay with your horse for the session and monitor their behaviour throughout.

Never leave a horse unattended mid-session
05

Step 05

Keep It Clean

Wipe devices clean between uses, especially after contact with coat, sweat or dust.

A quick wipe-down after every use
06

Step 06

Build a Routine

Use consistently as part of a recovery routine rather than a one-off session. Talk to your vet if you're supporting a specific injury or condition.

EQUINE QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

When used as directed, yes. Start with short sessions, avoid the eyes, never strap devices tightly, and watch your horse's behaviour throughout. This is wellness support, not veterinary treatment — always consult your vet for injuries or medical concerns.

660nm red light works at a more surface level — commonly used for coat-level and superficial-area support. 850nm near-infrared penetrates deeper, commonly used for larger muscle groups and joint-adjacent areas. Most Leredd equine devices combine both.

It depends on the area you want to support, how you'll use it, and your budget. Take our 60-second equine device quiz for a tailored recommendation, or browse by area in our equine collection.

Yes. Wipe devices clean between horses, especially wraps in contact with coat or sweat. Stables and clinics running multiple horses may prefer a fixed panel setup — see our Professional setup options.

Start with 5–10 minutes to see how your horse responds, then build up to 15–20 minutes as part of a regular routine. Most Leredd equine devices include a built-in timer.

This depends on the device and the area you're supporting — legs and hocks, back and saddle area, neck and poll, or larger muscle groups. Each equine product page includes a body map showing recommended placement.

Leredd equine devices are designed to support general comfort and recovery routines, not to treat injuries or medical conditions. Always consult a qualified veterinarian for lameness, injury, illness or any medical concern.
