Red light therapy works by using specific wavelengths of red light to penetrate the skin and stimulate cells to produce more energy. This increased energy production can lead to a variety of benefits, such as reduced inflammation, improved circulation, and increased collagen production. The red light is thought to activate mitochondria, the powerhouses of cells, which then produce more ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of cells. The increased ATP production can promote healing, reduce pain, and improve skin health.

Near-infrared light therapy works by using wavelengths of near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and interact with cells, promoting various biological processes. Near-infrared light can penetrate deeper into the body than red light and can increase blood flow, improve tissue oxygenation, and stimulate the production of nitric oxide, a molecule that helps to relax blood vessels and improve circulation. This therapy has been shown to have a range of potential benefits, such as reducing pain and inflammation, promoting wound healing, and improving cognitive function.

Eye protection isn’t necessary when using the visible Red light Settings providing you are not on any photosensitising medications, but we do not recommend looking directly into the LEDs as it can be uncomfortable. There are clinical studies that indicate that red light can actually benefit eye health. We do recommend using our certified eye protection glasses when using any NIR and Blue Settings. These safety glasses have been specially designed to allow the good red light through and block any that are questionable.

Additionally, if you have a history of eye problems or are concerned about your eye health, it is always best to consult with a healthcare professional before beginning any new therapy.
